Hippocrates of Cos (ca. 460-350 BC) is considered “the father of medicine.” He was born on the island of Cos, Greece. Hippocrates actual existence was affirmed by the philosopher Plato (427-347 BC) in Phaedrus. Hippocrates was active in Thessaly. The Hippocratic Corpus was probably written over the course of 150 years and was compiled in Alexandria. How many works or fragments are genuine works of Hippocrates remains debated.
